This is my entry for the “50 Precious Words” contest. I’ve written my story in honour of International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8, and Women’s History Month observed in March in the US, UK and Australia. (Canada celebrates in October.)

Thank you Vivian Kirkfield, children’s book author and contest host. I appreciate the opportunity and thank you to all the generous donors!

Billy Goat And The Fence That Farmer Kate Built
by Rosanna Montanaro (50 words)

Billy’s the naaaame.

Taunting’s my gaaaame.

Farmer Kaaaate’s fence was weak.

Smashing through, I bleated, “Boys are smaaaarter!”

Today, she fixed it.

Oops!

Stuck.

Now, her fence is my necklace.

Relief! Here she comes.

Except.

She ties two ‘feminist’ ribbons to my horns.

Gloating, she waits …

“You win, Farmer Kaaaate.”
