Luna, The True Hallowe’en Mascot

Super-sticky,
skilled-weaver,
silk-spinning Luna
shoots her web
covering jack-o-lantern’s eye
like a patch.

“Arrgh!” she quips.
“Nothing rivals a spider’s skills.”

Next stop?
Skeletons yard display.
“Useless heap of bones!
Spiders are THE Hallowe’en mascot,”
Luna complains.
She avoids the cobwebs.
“Imitation.”

Stegosaurus,
pickle,
masked pirate,
spider girl.
All waving hand sparklers.
“Nonsense. Creepy little humans.”

Sizzling.
Snapping.
Crackling.
Dazzling lights.
Luna’s web glitters like
golden candy wrappers.

Vibrations.
“Aha!” She swings to her prey.
“Welcome, my pretties.”
Finding — only candy corn.
“Ghastly.”

“This night haunts me forever,”
Luna says, rolling all her eyes.

99 words.
Thank you for reading!
Good luck to all the contestants and stay safe.
