Yoga: A Balance of Inside And Outside Worlds

Yoga: A Balance of Inside And Outside Worlds

It started with a simple question. A few years ago I was searching for an activity to get my body moving and a dear friend asked, why don’t you try yoga? I listened, and it changed my life.

I love yoga so much that I have cried describing what yoga means to me: what it has given me, and what I try to give back.

I have acquired strength and flexibility defying the odds and overcoming my fears, an experience of balancing the inside and outside worlds.

I am in awe of yoga’s history and the peace that was felt before me over thousands of years. I am grateful for the Eastern teachers who practiced and those who overcame the challenges inherent in bringing yoga to the West.

According to Patanjali Yoga Sutras, it refers to the asana as the end result of what is happening on the inside. Sri Dharma Mittra says to perform poses as an offering.

I offer the asana to myself. Other times I offer to those around me, and to those who are no longer here. I offer.

Yoga connects the breath and the body, allowing for self-expression. I appreciate the beauty and challenge of the asanas, each pose requiring detail and knowledge.

When I opened my world up to yoga, I tapped into something inside that was familiar. It was an awakening. I felt pure enjoyment and it reminded me of something.

My feelings on my mat were the same when I was at my desk.
PLAYING. CHILDHOOD. DISCOVERY. CURIOSITY.

Slowly I realized the elements that are required to work together are the same for both disciplines:

THEY REQUIRE MY DETERMINATION, MY FOCUS, MY ATTENTION,
MY BREATH, AND MY BODY.

So I continue to come back to my mat to explore these elements. I come back to my desk for the same. Yoga gave me all this, and yes, helped me to achieve my first goal, to move.

Namaste.
